I had to buy the domain name www.necropants.com. I had to do it. Necropants. Cool, or just plain wrong? I haven’t forwarded the domain name anywhere yet, but I will :)

As I work on my novella for the Liquid Silver Books Vampire Anthology “Of Flesh and Blood” I realized that my story takes place in Iceland. Home of the necropants. My hero is a Draugr (an Icelandic vampire), the heroine is a tad bit of a wanton American living abroad, and the villain is someone who would wear necropants for more than just sh*ts and giggles…

Necropants. Who knew? (This link works, and leads to a big “ick” factor)

  1. Draugur (The correct spelling) isn´t a vampire at all. It´s a ghost. Draugur just means ghost.

I´ve somtimes wondered if vampires could live in iceland as the day is 24 hours long in the summer time. I guess they would have to be sun resistent ;)

At least there are no vampires in icelandic folklore

  2. Erm, I scared to ask, but what are necropants and do I want to know?

  3. Draugur (although I have seen it spelled Draugr), according to Wikipedia:

    Traits

All draugrs possess superhuman strength, the ability to increase their size at will and the unmistakable stench of decay. They were also noted for the ability to rise from the grave as wisps of smoke. The draugr slew their victims through various methods including crushing them with their enlarged forms, devouring their flesh, and drinking their blood. Animals feeding near the grave of a draugr were often driven mad by the creature’s influence. [1]

Now, I ran into huldufolk while in Icelandic, and did fall into a ghost story–but if you have experience with a Draugur, please share it!

    Takk fyrir Egill

  4. Hi Darragha, I like the new blog. Looking forward to hearing more about “Of Flesh and Blood”, and of course your hero Draugr. Also the very interesting Necropants.

  5. Hi Darr,

Thanks for the link to your blog, hon. I’ve added you to my list of ~visit often~.

I liked the funny picture in my head associated with the word necropants much better than being faced with reality. Ugh. Have i mentioned i have a very imaginative, WEAK stomach? My tummy hurts. Curling up in a corner now. Shudder.
